As an Account Manager, you are a liaison between your employer and their clients/customers. Many different industries have Account Manager jobs, but the core responsibilities remain the same—maintain positive client/customer relationships to help grow your business. You will often find yourself playing a cross-functional role, working closely with several parties—both internal and external. For example, you may frequently collaborate with Sales to target prospective new business while also communicating with existing business to boost satisfaction and retention rates.

Account Manager Responsibilities:

Partner with Sales to manage a portfolio of business—both new and existingBuild close partnerships with clients and ensure they are satisfied with the company’s product(s) and/or service(s) to retain or renew their businessIdentify and manage high-risk clients to minimize churnUtilize customer relationship management (CRM) technology to manage client relationships and dataIntervene when clients identify key issues with the product(s) and/or service(s) and work quickly to oversee their resolution

Account Manager Skills and Qualifications:

1 to 5 years of experience in Account Management, Sales, Customer Support, or another related field (although positions are sometimes entry-level)Background in a relevant industry is strongly preferred and often required, depending on the years of experience desired by the employerExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to work inside of and independently from a team
